Hubballi the second largest city in Karnataka, a growing commercial centre in North Karnataka felt the need for a good English Medium School imparting quality education. Lions Club of Hubli rising to the needs of the community formed the Melvin Jones Education Society to launch a school. The pioneering project of Lions Club of Hubli the Lions English Medium School was inaugurated on 22nd June 1972 on the premises of Lamington School.

The School moved to its own premises in Vijayanagar from the academic year 1974. Lions English Medium School with a strength of more than 1000, is housed in one of the most imposing buildings in Vijayanagar with its natural backdrop, lends charm and beauty to the neighborhood. The high rise building standing on a high pedestal with its sprawling open space & playground has been an inspiration to the learning community.

Ever since the inception of the Melvin Jones Education Society, Lion Siddanna Yavagal as the Chairman of the Board of Management was closely and intimately associated with the growth development and welfare of the school. Under the present Chairman PDG. Lion N.P. Javali the school has achieved many a milestone & improved by leaps & bounds.

Academic Results

Our academic results in Public examinations have been both qualitatively and quantitatively excellent. We have achieved the distinct goal of 100 pass percentage many times. Our toppers have scored more than 95% in the aggregate, year after year.

Nijalingappa, Nuclear scientist Dr. Raja Ramanna, Kannada writer & former director of Baratiya Vidya Bhavan Sri. Mathoor Krishnamurthy, Past Lions International President Lion Dr. Ashok Mehta, Poojya Swamis and other dignitaries have visited & carried good impression of the School.

Lions Club of Hubli is one of the contributors of funds along with other social organizations and assisted the Trust to build Savai Gandharva Hall for the promotion of music, drama and social activities.

Inaugurated on 14 February 2001. Lions Blood bank is a major service activity of the club which was setup with the assistance L.C.I.F funds and generous donations from Lions and Public. This is the only Blood Bank which provides blood to the public at cost. The Chairman of the blood bank is PDG PMJF Lion Dr. R.L. Nadgir and the backbone of the activity is Lion Dr. Muralidhar Rao. The Club intends to upgrade the Blood Bank with the facility to produce Blood component level to the needy patients. More than 1800 units of Blood are distributed every year. And regular blood donation camps are conducted.

Eye Checkup Camps, Cataract Operations, Diabetic Awareness and Detection Camps, Donation of Artificial Limbs, Tree Plantation etc.

Started in 1964. Contributed to – Lions Blood Bank, Lions School Library, Constructed Class Rooms among other Community Service Activities.

Lion Ladies (Lioness) wing was started as early as 1964 under the President-ship of Lion Lady Shardu Sirur & has actively backed the Lions activities while maintaining its own identity. In 1972 when Lion Lady Girija Thakkar was the President “Our Cookery Book” was published with the guidance of Lion Lady Sushila Abraham, Lion lady Prema Mavinkurve & Lion Lady Nalini Javali. The book hit the stalls and the kitchens even abroad. It was so popular that it was reprinted four times. Out of the savings made by selling the books, Lion Ladies Club setup library at Lions English Medium School and contributed Rs.70,000 to Lions Blood Bank.

In the year 2014-2015 the Lioness Club celebrated its Golden Jubilee , 50 years of service to society. As Golden Jublilee project, the Lioness club under the President Lioness Roopa M. Ambekar, constructed 2 class rooms for Library & Science lab at Janata High School, Nrupatunga Betta, Hubli, a school for backward class students. Distribution of clothes, sweets, fruits, foods and maintaining a children’s library are among the notable service activities the Lioness conduct. And they are always by the side of Lions in all their service activities, with their active participation.
